Sandra Campbell
My love affair with film began in the late 1970’s when I first saw A Portrait of Jenny. I was a little girl back then, and the movie was a 1948 obscure classic. Ever since that time I have been a fan of films with that independent edge like: The Apartment, Cooley High and Conversations with Other Women. I didn’t act out the characters like Ben and Matt, but dreamed of the day my words would grace the silver screen. So, I started dabbling in writing poetry and short stories at age 13 and became insanely inspired to write a romantic buddy flick after watching an episode of Days of Our Lives. Well, let’s just say I gave it up when Bo and Hope broke up. While in college at the University of Houston, I found my voice as an actress and writer and performed in the play The Colored Museum with the Darker Shades of Expression theater troupe. As a public relations intern at the UH Colleges of Education and Optometry, I got my first taste of writing articles as a contributing writer for the Daily Cougar. After receiving my B.A. in Psychology I took a narrative film class and became even more interested in the media of film. In 2004, I fled the mental health profession and threw myself into completing my book of poetry and feature screenplay. Since 2004, I have taken up the craft of acting again at a local Houston studio (another passion of mine). Most of the films I have starred in have been independent shorts (guess I’m a little biased). I neurotically watch films every week and actively tweak my writing projects. Did I forget to mention I love horror films too? I guess it’s just in my blood.
